7. BLAST and multiple sequence alignment

Introduction

  • Group of BLAST programs enables comparison of arbitrary sequence (aminoacid or nucleotide) with all sequences in appropriate primary database, and choose those, which are the most similar to input sequence.
  • Multiple sequence alignment  makes possible to determine mutual similarity between more than two sequences.

Task no. 1

Using BLAST analyse this protein sequence and try to find out:
  1. function of this protein
  2. values of identity, similarity, score and E value for the most similar sequences from organisms Homo sapiens, Mus musculus, Xenopus laevis a Danio rerio
  3. Does any of these sequences belong to so-called twilight zone?
In conclusion save all four sequences in FASTA format into a text file.
